Important questions with answers for automobile engineering subject

Dear students, below questions are collected from various board exam papers. I hope it may helps to get better score
Scavenging
is the process of clearing off the burnt gases from combustion chamber after
the expansion process and replacing them with fresh charge to start another
cycle.
2. Write
the demerits of two stroke engine
- Fuel consumption is more and thermal efficiency less
- It produces high amount of emissions like CO, UBHC, CO2 etc.,
- Volumetric efficiency is less
3. What
are the types of gear boxes?
Gear boxes are generally
classified as
- Sliding mesh gear box
- Constant mesh gear box
- Synchromesh gear box
4. Name
the controls on handle bar.
- Right handle bar controls
- Head light switch
- Starter button
- Left handle bar controls
- Head light dimmer switch
- Passing control switch
- Turn signal switch
- Horn button
5. State the functions of brake
- To stop the vehicle quickly with in the shortest possible distance.
- To slow down or stop the motion of a moving vehicle
6. Mention the common causes for tyre wear
- Under-inflation
- Over-inflation
- Wheel misalignment
- More heat
7. What is race vehicle?
Race vehicle is a
very fast vehicle that is used for race competition. The specification of
vehicle is governed by rules of the racing.
8. Write any two daily inspection of two wheeler.
- Check the fuel level
- Check the type pressure
- Check the operations of lights, horns, switches
- Check the clutch and brake cables
9. Name any two periodic check- ups followed
in three wheelers.
- Check the lubricating oil level
- Check chain play, wheel nut tight
- Check lights for their operations
- Clean air filter
10. Write few applications of three wheelers.
Three wheelers are
extensively used to carrying passengers as well as goods like fruits, vegetables,
milk canes, LPG gas cylinders, Paints, Electrical and electronics items.
11. What is the function of fuel feed pump?
The purpose
of the fuel feed pump is to draw the fuel from the fuel tank to the carburetor
or fuel injection pump through fuel filter under certain pressure.
12. Define spark ignition engine.
When the
combustion of fuel takes place due to the spark produced by the spark plug,
then the engine is said to be spark ignition engine.
13. What do you mean by self-starter
mechanism?
Self-starter mechanism is used to
crank the engine flywheel. The starter motor is linked to the engine fly wheel
through a set of gears. A pinion gear is attached to the starter motor armature
which drives a ring gear attached to the fly wheel.
14. What is main frame?
The frame
is the skeleton or backbone of the vehicle. The main function is to provide a non-flexible
mount to carry the rider and all the various components of the vehicle.
15. Why shock absorbers are used in
suspension system?
When the
vehicle moves in irregular roads the spring assembly moves in up or down
direction. The spring does not come to its original position immediately and
causing vibrations. To control the spring movement shock absorbers are used.
16. What is cast wheel?
It is made
up of aluminum or magnesium alloys. Cast wheels are mostly used in cars and two
wheelers. The alloy cast wheel is light in weight compared to steel disc wheel.
17. What is meant by overhauling?
Overhauling
is a general process consists of cleaning, inspection, diagnosis, re adjustment
and tuning up of an assembly or part. Example: engine overhauling
18. What are the
types of lubrication systems?
- Petroil or mist lubrication system
- Wet sump pressure lubrication system
- Dry sump pressure lubrication system
19. What is scavenging efficiency?
Scavenging efficiency can be defined as the ratio of the volume of air in the cylinder at the start of the compression to the volume swept by the piston from the top edge of the ports to the top of the strokes.
20. Mention the function and types of frames
The main function is to provide a non-flexible mount to carry the rider and all the various components of the vehicle.
Types of frames
- Diamond frame
- Cradle frame
- Back bone frame
- Underbone frame
- Trellis frame
21. Compare drum and disk brake.
